An annual register of the people who actually built it.
The Owners’ Index is a once-a-year reference of UK and international owner-operators — the people who employ, invest, ship and carry payroll. Membership is being listed. Listing is by application.
The people who hire, who invest, who carry the cost of a bad quarter and the weight of a good one are not well represented in the public record. The Index exists to correct that — quietly, annually, and on their own terms.
Listed on what you built.
Entries are verified on actual output — revenue, headcount, exits, things made. Not follower counts. Not credentials. Not intent. The Index is a record of work done.
Annual, not algorithmic.
One considered edition per year. The flagship publication is a physical annual; entries are referenced for twelve months and revised for the next. No feeds. No daily noise.
Quiet by design.
No personal-brand theatrics. No motivational scripts. No coaches selling in. The standard is specificity: numbers, trade-offs, scars, the things you actually did.
Three sections, one standard: you have built something real.
The Index is organised into three sections, because the SME owner navigating a first management hire and the post-exit founder allocating capital do not share the same immediate problems — even if they share the same identity.
Owner-operators
£500k–£10m turnover · 2–50 staff
You are still central to sales, hiring and operations. The fight is cash flow, the first senior hires, customer concentration, and not losing yourself to the business.
Scaled founders
£10m–£100m+ · 50–500+ staff
You have moved past founder-led hustle into organisational complexity. The fight is the senior team, investor management, culture drift, and the bet you cannot yet name.
Globally recognised
£100m+ · exit, IPO or public profile
The company runs without you on a Tuesday. The fight is legacy, governance across large asset bases, reputational exposure, and the question of what to do with the rest of it.

The inaugural edition sets the standard.
Edition I is capped at five hundred entries. Each carries a permanent number, a printed citation, and a vote on who is added in Edition II. A one-time application fee, no renewals, no tiers above you. The list is closed when it is full.
A short list. Updated when something changes our minds.
The books, essays and shows that operators actually read — not the ones recommended to them.
